This is a follow-up to my previous post regarding validation notices and addresses the issue of whether a consumer can still request validation after the 30 day validation period has expired. Once the 30 day validation period has run, a consumer still has the right to request validation from the debt collector. However, the debt collector is not required by law to respond to this late validation request and does not have to cease collection activity once such a request is made. Consumers must make sure that if they plan on requesting validation, they must do so in the initial 30 day period.
