In a continuing effort to educate consumers regarding their rights, the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) has launched a website (http://consumer.gov/ncpw/) which is easily understandable by consumers of all ages, including school-aged children. This website has been launched in time for this year’s annual National Consumer Protection Week, which will take place in March. While the website is geared toward adult consumers, it features an interactive section where kids can learn about businesses, reasons to protect private information (such as social security numbers) and how to spot various scams. The FTC has consistently stressed the importance of a knowledgeable adult consumer but now has shifted gears to ensure that children have all the necessary information to become a knowledgeable future consumer.
