The West Virginia Attorney General has settled claims against three debt collection agencies, obtaining over $400,000 in restitution, cash refunds, and debt cancellations. These claims were initiated as a result of the debt collectors’ actions which included harassing phone calls, impermissible threats to sue, collecting on illegal loans, and collecting without a license. “Consumers should be skeptical whenever a collection agency threatens legal action,” Attorney General McGraw said after the settlements were announced.
